About contact lenses

The first contact lens was designed by Leonardo da Vinci as early as 1508, but it wasn’t until 1888 that development of the contact lens really took off. The first permanently wearable soft lenses came on the market in 1973 and the first oxygen permeable hard lenses appeared in 1975.1 Procornea Nederland B.V. (later part of the CooperVision Specialty EyeCare Division) was founded in 1976 with the mission to achieve optimal visual acuity for every person worldwide, regardless of the condition of the eye, so that everyone can experience their world to the fullest.

Contact lenses are our passion. They offer freedom, endless possibilities, and for some, they are even the only chance for good vision. The benefits of contact lenses:

  • They are ideal for playing sports and exercise;
  • Contact lenses cannot fog up;
  • Compared to eyeglasses, they typically offer a wider field of view with less image distortion;
  • They are invisible;
  • Contact lenses come in many shapes and sizes.

To wear contact lenses safely, with pleasure and with good results, it is important to always follow the instructions of your eye care professional and to handle your lenses correctly. Consider hygiene, regular check-ups and choosing the right eye care specialist.
